Types of Decking

Composite decking

IComposite decking has increased in popularity in recent years,  manufactured from a mixture of recycled plastics and wood fibres, composite decking can offer a more sustainable solution than traditional timber. Composite decking offers greater protection both from rain and the sun’s UV rays, without the need to treat it and will not fade, crack, split, splinter, go mouldy or rot over time.  Installation of composite decking uses the same tools as traditional wood decking with the added benefit of side grooves for hidden fasteners.  A hidden fastener system makes use of grooves built into the sides of the decking planks for a smooth surface without any screws showing.

A softwood deck means that the timber is made from a softwood tree. It’s the most popular and least expensive type of decking.  The designs usually come in boards that are 150mm wide and 35mm thick and are reversible. One side is smooth and the other is ribbed or readed design. Customers can choose whatever side they prefer to suit their design or preferred aesthetics they would like to create.

Hardwood decking

Hardwood is very long lasting and will be durable well into the future. This is why lots of people choose hardwood over softwood decking.  The appeal of hardwoods lies in their naturally rich, deep colours that weather over time to develop a beautiful warmth and character. Hardwoods can be stained if you wish, to your distinct colour preference.  Hardwoods are highly resistant to fungal growth and offer naturally superior levels of durability and wear resistance, without any additional chemical treatment. With only nominal care and maintenance with treatment oils or stains, they retain their natural beauty year after year – a major plus for the busy lifestyles we lead today.
